Towards a sustainable research career with progression based on merit

Rui Travasso – Member of the Board

Rui Travasso was born in 1977, has a degree in Physics from the Universidade do Porto and completed his PhD, also in Physics, in 2003 at the University of Manchester. Subsequently he became a post-doctoral researcher at the Universities of Pittsburgh, USA and Lisbon, Portugal. On 2008 he became an investigator at the Centro de Física Computacional (CFC) of the University of Coimbra (Ciencia 2007 contract),  and finally in 2013 he became a principal investigator of the FCT Researcher program still at CFC in Coimbra.

During his career he has worked in multidisciplinary topics ranging from Physics (fluctuations and dynamics of interfaces), to Engineering (phase separation and mechanics of polymeric mixtures) and Biology (modeling protein folding, tumor growth and angiogenesis). Besides other prizes that he was awarded, in 2007 received the Estímulo à Investigação prize from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian with the project The Role of Surface Morphology on Tumor Growth.
