Nuno Azevedo – Member of the Board

  • Nuno Filipe Azevedo, 35 y.o., married. Nuno Azevedo started a Faculty Research Fellow position at the Laboratory for Process, Environmental and Energy Engineering (LEPAE) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in June 2009. During his research career he has authored or co-authored 35 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, more than 15 book chapters, 4 patents and co-edited a book. He was the co-founder of Biomode SA, a biotechnological company that develops rapid diagnostic kits for microorganisms. He supervises several PhD and MsC students and gives lectures to the Bioengineering Course at FEUP.
  • Before moving to his present position, Nuno Azevedo obtained his degree in Biological Engineering in 2001 at the University of Minho. He then obtained his PhD on Chemical and Microbial Technology in 2005, working both at the University of Minho and the University of Southampton, UK.  He also spent the next four years in a Post-doctoral position at the University of Minho and the University of Southampton.
  • Dr. Azevedo main research interests are to explore the potential of peptide nucleic acids (PNA) and other DNA mimics combined with fluorescence in situ hybridization, and also the elucidation of the structure of polymicrobial biofilms related to human infections.
