  • Gabriel Bernardo, born 1973, married, one daughter. Independent researcher since July 2009 when he started his current position as Assistant Researcher in the Institute for Polymers and Composites, University of Minho. Gabriel has co-authored circa 25 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals (including two as single author and several others as corresponding author), all of them ISI-indexed, and two book chapters. He is currently involved in 3 FCT research projects (in 2 as Principal Investigator), and he is currently supervising 1 PhD student and 2 other postgraduate students.
  • Gabriel Bernardo graduated in Chemistry from University of Porto (FCUP) and he holds
a MSc in Chemistry from the same University, a MSc in Computing Science (conversion course) from Imperial College (London, UK) and a PhD in Materials Science (specialty of Polymeric Materials) from Oxford University (2005). From October 2005 to June 2009, he held post-doc positions in Lisbon, both at FCT-UNL and IST-UTL. In the period from October 2010 – April 2011, he was a Fulbright scholar in the department of Materials Science at Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA) working in collaboration with Prof. David G. Bucknall.
  • His current research interests include the study of “stimuli-responsive” polymers for advanced technologies, the study of the phase behavior in polymer-small molecule and polymer-nanoparticle systems and the study of the sorption and diffusion of small molecules in polymers.
