On 17 July 2012 the European Commission adopted a Communication on the European Research Area (ERA) entitled ‘A Reinforced European Research Area Partnership for Excellence and Growth’. The Communication answers the call by the European Council in February 2011 and March 2012 to complete ERA by 2014. For more information visit the ERA site or access the Communication here.
An effective and efficient European Research Area is vital to create the conditions for economic growth and generate new jobs. But this will need sustained longterm consensus on the actions and policies needed.
Therefore the ERA Communication focuses on key priority areas where most progress
must be made, by optimizing Europe-wide research competition and cooperation, the interoperability of national research systems and the removal of barriers to the circulation of researchers, knowledge and technology. For each priority, the Communication identifies concrete actions to be undertaken by Member States, research stakeholder organisations and the European Commission, working together within a reinforced partnership.
