Programa Polar Português – Campanha Antártica 2012-13
CONVITE PARA SUBMISSÃO DE EXPRESSÕES DE INTERESSE PARA PROJETOS

A Comissão de Coordenação do Programa Polar Português (PROPOLAR), que gere a Campanha Antártica Portuguesa 2012-13, projeto financiado pela FCT, convida equipas de centros de investigação nacionais a submeter propostas de projetos de investigação a levar a cabo na Antártida, na campanha com início em dezembro de 2012 e fim em abril de 2013. Aceitam-se propostas em todas as áreas científicas, desde que coordenadas por investigadores doutorados. O número de projetos que serão aceites nesta candidatura será muito restrito. As equipas não deverão incluir mais de dois investigadores para trabalhos no terreno. Os jovens investigadores poderão candidatar-se ao Programa de Mobilidade Nova Geração de Cientistas Polares da CGD.

Adoption of the ERA Communication

On 17 July 2012 the European Commission adopted a Communication on the European Research Area (ERA) entitled ‘A Reinforced European Research Area Partnership for Excellence and Growth’. International Consortia of Research Staff Associations to be launched soon

ANICT has been involved in the setting up of two international organizations that aim to represent the interests of Post-Doctoral Researchers: the European Research Staff Association (EURSA) and the International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA).
In a preliminary meeting that took place during the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF 2012), a vision for these consortia emerged, based on the professionalization of the research career across the world.
More documentation about these organizations will be posted as it becomes available.

ANICT MSc Fellowship: Influence of temperature changes in wine yields from the Douro region

Susana Barbosa, member of ANICT and researcher at Universidade de Lisboa, was the winner in the “Natural and Exact Sciences” field of the 2012 ANICT Msc Fellowship award. She will supervise the MSc candidate Andreia Ribeiro to pursue her thesis in Geophysical Sciences, at Universidade de Lisboa, in the theme of “Study of the influence of temperature changes in wine yields in the Douro region from statistical downscaling of a numerical weather model”.

More about the MSc project:

Wine production is an activity of high economic and societal relevance. Among other factors, grapevine is highly influenced by air temperature, which significantly affects the grapes composition and therefore the quality of the final wine yield. In a climate change context it is therefore particularly relevant to quantify the effect of changes in temperature in wine yields in order to reduce impacts and implement adaptation measures. This master thesis concerns the analysis of high-resolution (9 km) temperature data from the WRF numerical model and of historical records since the last 30 years of wine yields in the Douro region. The work is based on the application of geostatistical simulation techniques for the statistical downscaling of model data to the local scale, and on the development of nonlinear regression models for the quantification of the relation between air temperature and wine yield in the Douro region.

A Direcção da Associação dos Bolseiros de Investigação Científica (ABIC) convoca para o dia 5 de Julho, quinta-feira, uma acção de protesto dos bolseiros de investigação. Trata-se de uma concentração, em frente ao Ministério da Educação e Ciência, na estrada das Laranjeiras, em Lisboa, pelas 15h.

Dando continuidade a acções já desenvolvidas por núcleos locais de bolseiros, com esta acção apelamos aos bolseiros que compareçam e façam ouvir a sua voz. A ABIC dinamizará uma tribuna pública onde recolheremos testemunhos directos dos bolseiros para entregarmos à tutela, dando também assim uma resposta forte ao pedido de exemplos concretos de problemas e abusos do Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação, que a Secretária de Estado da Ciência fez na última reunião com a ABIC.

Os bolseiros de investigação têm vindo a sofrer, em particular nos últimos meses, severos ataques às suas condições de trabalho e de vida. Não podemos aceitar os atrasos sem precedentes no início, na renovação ou nos pagamentos das bolsas com consequências gravíssimas e imorais na vida dos bolseiros e suas famílias. Não são aceitáveis também os atrasos nos reembolsos do Seguro Social Voluntário (SSV), que levam a que muitos bolseiros suspendam as suas contribuições para o SSV, pondo em causa a sua proteção social mínima. É urgente lembrar a incomportável perda de poder de compra de quem não vê as bolsas atualizadas desde 2002. É urgente denunciar que, apesar dos elevados níveis de qualificação, da sua importância e peso no Sistema Científico e Tecnológico Nacional, o Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (EBI) continua a impor condições de extrema precariedade. Vamos exigir mais respeito por quem tanto contribui para o desenvolvimento e reconhecimento de Portugal. Vamos exigir a alteração do EBI no sentido de valorizar e dignificar o nosso trabalho.
Fim dos atrasos nos pagamentos das bolsas e da Segurança Social.
Contratos de trabalho e melhores condições para quem trabalha em Ciência.
